When I was in university, I drank a lot.
And I did it mostly with a group of male friends.
I sometimes fell down. I sometimes passed out. I sometimes woke up feeling murky about what happened the night before.
But if I passed out, my friends tucked me in or took me home. And I fell, they picked me up. And murky mornings were followed by jovial afternoons of nursing hangovers and swapping stories about the previous evening’s adventures.
And I never, for a second, felt unsafe in their company.
That’s not to say these men should patted on the back for not being rapists. But it goes to show that “boys will be boys” is a piss-poor excuse for rape.
Real men — and have known many — treat women with respect.
